All good things must come to an end; that’s just how it is, sadly. In the case of GTA Online, this thing has been, well, online, for a decade, and Rockstar Games has filled it with all sorts of content, including missions and heists that tie things back to the main game it spawned from. However, with Rockstar working on its next entry, and that entry inevitably getting an “upgrade” to its online potential, the version we have now will have to end in terms of the content that comes out. On Reddit, one player looked “deep within the code” to see what the final DLC might be, and came up with a rather unique theory.
Specifically, they think that a certain person is behind the “takeover AI” that was introduced in the “Safehouse in the Hills” content that was released a little while ago, and that this could lead to players “fleeing” to Vice City:
“This theory proposes that Mr. Faber (introduced in the Money Fronts / House in the hills) is the secret owner and operator of the SecuroServ corporation, and that GTA Online’s final DLC will reveal the player has unknowingly built their entire empire inside his system.
When Mr. Faber turns SecuroServ against the player, every corporate asset is seized, an assassination attempt is ordered, and the only remaining viable allies are legacy operators who exist outside SecuroServ’s control, leading to one final, old school escape heist that allows the player to flee to Leonida (Vice City).”
That would be quite a twist, and it would be a fun way for players to “move on” from Los Santos and head to Vice City, which is logistically on the other side of the country, and thus, would be out of the reach of Mr. Faber and his corporation.
As for what others thought, the reaction was a bit split. On one hand, some thought it was a rather in-depth way of making it work, and could “reframe” things to make the player feel like they were part of a true story arc the whole time.
Others think it’s a bit of a reach, especially since the online mode will still be active once Rockstar’s next game hits, and then after, while the team works out bugs before launching the new online mode. It’s also not a guarantee that Rockstar WANTS to connect the old mode to the upcoming one.
Still, this is a fun theory, and it’d be interesting if this gamer is closer to the truth than we realise.
