At least it’s a free update.

SynthPotato has made an interesting observation about the just released new editions of Red Dead Redemption.

He shared these sentiments on Twitter:

Final thoughts on Red Dead Redemption 1’s new ports: They are OK.

This port is more aimed at the upgrades Switch 2 and Xbox owners get, they FINALLY get 60FPS with better graphics.

PS5 get the least upgrades as its already had those.

Still waiting for RDR2 to get an upgrade

So Is It Not Worth Playing The PlayStation 5 Version Now?

SynthPotato isn’t saying the new PlayStation version is bad. When he was asked, he pointed out that if you hadn’t played the game yet, it is an amazing game no matter how you play it.

This is alluding to what Double Eleven originally did for Red Dead Redemption on the PlayStation 4. This version of the game originally released in August 17, 2023. This was also already playable on the PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility.

But on October 2023, Double Eleven published Update 1.03. This added a new 60 FPS Framerate option if you played the game on the PlayStation 5. And yes, that meant you could already play the game at 4K 60 FPS.

The newer version that Double Eleven just published for the PlayStation 5 theoretically has other improvements. There is higher level of detail (LOD) which means more impressive textures, for example.

But SynthPotato makes his point well enough. Before they released this version, it was already a great experience on PlayStation 5. And really, the problem with this new version swings the other way.

They Could Do More On The PlayStation 5

SynthPotato also pointed out that this new version didn’t actually make use of what made the PlayStation 5 unique. It still doesn’t support the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the console’s DualSense controller.

We know that this version is really based on the PC version published a year before. That was the reason that Double Eleven could scale the game up and down to consoles and mobile.

Maybe this new version is more stable on PlayStation 5, but it does not seem like it does enough. For some PlayStation 5 owners, they may prefer playing the PlayStation 4 version using good old backwards compatibility after all.

But then again, the reason SynthPotato is talking about these things and we’re reporting on them is Double Eleven and Rockstar can clearly fix this situation, with future updates. And they can’t neglect sharing those improvements to Xbox and Switch 2 gamers too.
