This New Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Path Tracing Mod Will Push Your PCs To Their Limit

December 2, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

This seems like more work than any game company is willing to do.

The Rockstar community has once again made something that Take-Two doesn’t seem to be willing to put their money into.

As reported by WCCFTech, there’s a new path tracing mod out for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. But off the bat, we have to explain why most of you won’t be able to play with it.

When Fans Make Their Own Grand Theft Auto

A mod group called Revolution Team made their own version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, called Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nextgen Edition. This version of the game is a proper remaster with souped up visuals.

On top of that, Revolution Team added the QOL and other improvements that were made in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

Of course, we can see why the fans would want to make their own version of this. But you can probably already guess that this mod is no longer available to download anymore.

In this case, this unofficial remaster had to be built from the ground up, so they could not just pass it off as a mod to help sell the original game.

What Does This New Mod Do?

From our understanding, this new mod is really based on the same work for the Grand Theft Auto IV path tracing mod. YouTuber MxBenchmarkPC took the custom RTX runtime from that mod after it went public last week.

The mod really levels up the game to the current generation, but at a huge cost.

The Other Reason You Won’t Be Trying This Mod

The mod is free, of course. What we mean is that this path tracing mod pushes PC hardware to their limits. WCCFTech explained that a Ryzen 7 9800X3D would struggle to run this game at a steady 60 FPS.

Of course, you should probably be using an Nvidia GPU anyway. But MxBenchmarkPC’s video demonstrates that testers will need to use frame generation if they want to get it running above 60 FPS.

We doubt most gamers will go upgrading their PC build now just for this mod. But if you already have an industry leading gaming PC, you’ll still have to find a way to get a copy of this fan-made remaster too.

On the upside, the RTX mod allows Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to run at 4K and 1440p, thanks to Nvidia DLSS. You can check out how the game looks with the mod for completely free below.
