Is There Any Chance Of GTA 6 Getting Canceled?

November 26, 2025 by Todd Black

Let’s have calm thoughts here, okay?

Fear is a powerful emotion, and when people get fearful due to a situation outside of their control happening, they tend to freak out and spiral and take things to the farthest possible option, even though there’s no logical reason to think certain things. Enter GTA 6, a game that has had a LOT of people speculating on what will happen with the game next due to the delay that happened earlier this month. The game went from being around six months away to being a full year away, and many feel that this won’t be the last delay in the game’s tenure.

However, a certain thought has been floating around certain circles, including places like The Escapist, where some claim that gamers are fearful that GTA 6 could straight-up be canceled due to all the delays that are happening, mixed with the behind-the-scenes drama that is plaguing Rockstar Games right now. So, the question is, “Is that really possible?”

Objectively? Yes, it is possible for the game to be canceled. There are certain things that could happen to lead to such a result. However, is it LIKELY that this is going to happen? No.

For example, while delays always suck, this is hardly the first game to suffer such setbacks and pushbacks, and we can cite many games from recent history that had a long development time, yet came out swinging and were nominated for “Game of the Year.” Heck, one of those games was a lovely little indie game that Team Cherry made after eight years or so of promises of when the title would come out.

Another thing to consider here is that this IS the title that Rockstar Games is working on right now. If they were to cancel this title after so many years of working on it, it would pretty much end the studio and possibly Take-Two Interactive. Rockstar has nothing else in the works, and while Take-Two has other companies under its banner, this title is the one that will make them the most money, and so they NEED it to come out.

And yes, the behind-the-scenes stuff is worrying, but that is very much unlikely to lead to a game cancellation, as that wasn’t the “true problem,” it was workplace conditions that are allegedly the problem.

The point here is that while it’s fine to be fearful of another delay, as that is 100% possible, going straight to “the game will be canceled eventually” is a true stretch and shouldn’t be entertained.
