Quick, name your favorite 4X strategy game. I'll give you a few extra seconds to think. Mine is probably Sins of a Solar Empire, if it helps. No?
Okay, so the 4X strategy genre isn't exactly booming these days. If you don't even know what a 4X game is, let Wikipedia clear it up for you: "4X games are a genre of strategy video game in which players control an empire and "explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate." The games are usually fairly complex, and involve building up an empire though economic, political, technological, and military means, and often end with annihilation.
Say hello to Amplitude Games, a Paris-based studio made up of folks who previously worked at Ubisoft and EA. Their new game, Endless Space, is going to be a space-based (surprise!) 4X game, making use of what the company calls the "GAMES2GETHER" initiative. If you are wondering what that means, Amplitude CEO Mathieu Girard is here to clear it up for you.
"Few industries have such a vocal community and even fewer have the luxury of listening to the feedback that it provides," Girard says. "Now that we're independent and get to call the shots, the whole team shares the dream of bringing this interactivity and support one step further."
If you are interested in having your ideas represented, check out the Endless Space website. What sort of things would you like to see in the game? Let us know in the comments, and then head over and make your voice heard!
