Resident Evil fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the next mainline chapter. We previously went through another remake, the heavily praised Resident Evil 4. However, now fans will take another step forward and see where the narrative leads players in Resident Evil Requiem. That game already has a ton of hype and anticipation built over it.
One aspect that we learned very early on in marketing of this upcoming title was the camera perspective. The classic era of Resident Evil games was mainly third-person. However, at the start of Resident Evil 7’s development, Capcom shifted its focus towards a first-person perspective. That carried over to the successor of that game, Resident Evil Village.
Resident Evil Requiem Third-Person Camera Perspective Explained

Of course, fans who are more fond of a third-person perspective might be overjoyed that this game is giving you options. The game allows players to decide whether they want to experience the gameplay in first- or third-person perspective. Likewise, there’s an option that allows the game to make these changes on the fly. This way, you’re going to get the experience that the developers intend at any given moment.
That said, the reason there is a third-person camera perspective is due to Resident Evil 7. Koshi Nakanishi is the game director behind this upcoming title and was also the director behind Resident Evil 7. Speaking with GamesRadar, Koshi noted that looking back, he felt Resident Evil 7 was a little too scary.
Looking back at Resident Evil 7’s first person perspective, I implemented that as a way to make it more immersive and more scary than ever before, which I think most you know media and players agreed it was an incredibly scary game, but it was possibly too scary.
I think some people couldn’t handle it, and either couldn’t finish or didn’t even start it. And that’s something that I look back on thinking that, you know, I want to make sure that people can enjoy this game. So if you started the game off in first person perspective, and you’re finding it’s too much, then third person is almost a way to step slightly back from that level of horror and make it slightly easier to deal with by having the character on screen as a kind of Avatar of yourself.
Featuring a game that was played in first-person put a strain on some players, who either couldn’t finish the game or wouldn’t start it. As a result, the game director wanted to create a game that allowed players to take a slight step back, so they’re a little less in the forefront of the action. That might help alleviate some of the scares and allow more players actually to enjoy the game.
Currently, Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch early next year. Mark your calendars, as you’ll be heading back to the iconic Raccoon City thirty years later on February 27, 2026. When the game is released, you’ll be able to pick up a copy for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
