This Patch Is A Bigger Deal Than You Think
Remember when Black Myth Wukong seemed to be an instant sensation when it released last year? Even though most gamers played the game on PC from China, the prevailing narrative was that it was successful as a Sony game.
This narrative took root because developer Game Science released the game on PlayStation 5 one year before Xbox Series X|S. There was a lot of discourse if it was delayed on Xbox because of technical issues. For so many reasons, that discourse is moot today.
What gamers though Black Myth Wukong was is what Lost Soul Aside actually is. As a China Hero Project, this is the actual game which Sony backed extensively. They got a big development budget, a publishing deal, and exceptional support for PlayStation 5. Sony literally built a whole studio for the original solo developer to realize his vision.
And you can see that because Lost Soul Aside is getting a Day One Patch. Gamers and even critics seemed eager to excuse Black Myth Wukong’s technical issues at launch. While Sony was willing to pin their name on an imperfect Chinese game last year, they can’t let that happen with the game they actually own.
It’s unlikely for Lost Soul Aside to get as big as Black Myth Wukong. But Sony has a lot riding on this major China Hero Project being successful.
