Capcom Having a Hard Time Fixing Online Problems

March 9, 2012 by Jacob Saylor

Capcom reveals that they’ve a challenge ahead of them in trying to fix online problems with their games.

In a blog post by staff member Ayano, it’s revealed that though the team is working hard to fix online lag issues, that it’s not as easy as one thinks.

“With Street Fighter X Tekken going on sale today in Japan, I suspect a lot of you out there are busy training up your skills! However, we are aware of the sound issues that occur when playing matches online.” Reads the blog post.

It’s not uncommon for newly-released video games to experience lag – especially in the online portions of said games. What makes this case interesting, though, is how the problems have persisted through various fixes.

“The new netcode implemented in Street Fighter X Tekken allows for up to 4 players to have a smooth online experience, however depending on the connection stability between players, things like ‘spontaneous match rollback,’ ‘voice effects cutting out,’ and ‘sound effects cutting out’ also are occurring. This netcode is written in a completely different way than the Street Fighter IV series netcode, and that is why these problems are occurring.”

It’s quite apparent that the problems are varied and degrading to the game’s quality, but it doesn’t look like the team is much closer to a working patch, as Ayano had this to say:

“In order to completely fix all the sound issues, the smoothness of the online gameplay has to be traded off, so it is a very complicated and difficult balancing act. We would like everyone to know that the development team is currently looking at various ways to improve the sound issues.”

So, it looks like those of you looking to play Street Fighter X Tekken online may want to improve your skills in the single-player portion of the game until they can find a proper fix.
