Nintendo made some surprising moves a while back. I’m sure you recall when the gaming giant ventured into the mobile market. They started working with developers on crafting different smartphone and tablet video games based on their popular franchises. One of those games was Mario Kart Tour.
Most of the games Nintendo dropped are no longer around. It’s a venture that they certainly dialed back on since. Mario Kart Tour is a game that is still available, but for a while now, we’ve all assumed it’s done with new content. Instead, players who continued to enjoy this game would only get the same rotation of levels to race around in. But that’s changed now with a new campaign.
Mario Kart World Special Campaign
Taking to the Nintendo Mobile YouTube channel, Nintendo and developers DeNA unveiled the new campaign coming to the game. It’s all in celebration over the latest Mario Kart title to land in the marketplace. With June bringing the Nintendo Switch 2 into the market, Nintendo also dropped Mario Kart World as their first-party game to help move units off the store shelves.
The update for Mario Kart Tour brings in the Mario Kart World Special Campaign. This event kicks off on July 23, 2025, and will run through August 6, 2025. There will be a Sunshine Tour, a Vacation Tour, and a Summer Tour for players to go through. Included are some additional content that might entice you to pick this mobile app back up.
For instance, Mario and Luigi will come back with their mechanic outfit designs. Furthermore, there are a total of four karts being added to the game. You can spot both of those in the video embedded above.
This is certainly a surprise for players, and we’re unsure if it will trigger any further updates to the game later on. We’re also wondering how many players will return to the game with this new update. Perhaps if there’s enough interest in Mario Kart Tour, there will be an incentive to keep new content coming.
Otherwise, the primary focus Nintendo likely hopes to gain from this event is further marketing towards Mario Kart World. If you haven’t tried the game yet and own a Nintendo Switch 2, we have a ‘Before You Buy’ video coverage of the game available. Those of you interested can check it out below.
