There’s another big rumor going on about FromSoftware.

As reported by Kurakasis for MP1st, FromSoftware is working on a new game under the codename FMC. What he knows is it has yet to be announced, it will be a multiplayer game, and that it is at an advanced stage of development. In fact, if it stays on schedule, it should be releasing as early as 2026.
Kurakasis also explained his history of leaking and analyzing FromSoftware’s internal codenames. They always use initials for items that exist or are relevant in the games. So we know FMC won’t be what we call the game itself, but it may refer to a MacGuffin, or an actual important item in its story.
Lastly, Kurakasis shared his theory that this is a remake of a Dark Souls game. We did report on a rumor from ‘Shpeshal’ Nick Baker that a Dark Souls 3 remaster is in development all the way back in November 2024. But he also shared the fan theory that it could be a new Armored Core game.
We won’t venture to guess what this game is, but we do know that Hidetaka Miyazaki wants the studio to move into a new experimental phase after defining the ‘Soulslike’ genre for so long. We originally reported this as a rumor in September 2024, but Miyazaki himself confirmed this in an awards show in December of that same year.
Kurakasis pointed out that we know about two games FromSoftware is working on right now. They just launched Elden Ring Nightreign, and are likely to provide ongoing support for at least the next five years. FromSoftware also announced a Switch 2 exclusive PvPvE game called The Duskbloods last April, and we don’t know its release date quite yet.
It’s possible that FromSoftware has even more than these three games in development, simply because the studio is both interested in stretching their wings, and they have the money to do so. They actually could have that Dark Souls 3 remaster, a new Armored Core, remasters of Ninja Blade and Frame Gride, and also still have the unannounced FMC.
While the Dark Souls/Demon’s Souls games had online multiplayer elements, Elden Ring Nightreign and the upcoming The Duskbloods indicates that FromSoftware has a bigger interest in making dedicated multiplayer games now. We don’t know if this means they will become a completely different kind of game studio in the next decade, but that would make this just the latest chapter in the studio’s evolution. As FromSoftware has demonstrated, while they stood firm on certain convictions in game design, they have also shown an eagerness to try anything, and that’s how they stumbled onto their nearly two decades of success.
