Do you hear the clock ticking? If you can’t, you might want to check your closest calendar. Why? There are now only three weeks left to go until the Nintendo Switch 2 arrives. The anticipation has already boiled over, and it’s led to many people wondering how well the system will do, and if the “growing numbers of haters” will affect early sales for the system. Regardless of that answer, Nintendo is doing all it can to ensure that the platform has as much visibility as possible before launch. To that end, a new set of Japanese commercials has dropped, and they have some special guest stars in them.
No, they don’t have the Nintendo characters themselves, though that would be an interesting thing to do… Instead, they have the members of the Japanese idol band Snow Man. Check them out below:
For those who don’t understand the importance of this, in Japan, idol groups are basically the most popular kind of bands. Whether they are singular people or groups, they are beloved by many fans, who basically worship them…like idols. Yeah, it’s that kind of thing. It’s that very reason why a certain ink-filled franchise has become one of the biggest things in Japan over the last ten years, because its “hosts” are idols.
Anyway, the goal with this collaboration is obvious. They’re trying to tap into “that market” of fans by stating that, “Hey, if your favorite band is getting the Nintendo Switch 2, so should you!” It’s a simple yet effective tactic that could pay off in the long run.
The irony with that, of course, is that Japan has already shown that they REALLY want the Switch 2. If you recall, when pre-orders went live via the Nintendo Store in Japan, 2.2 million people went to that service to try and get the console. That’s a big number! It was so big that Nintendo’s President had to make an official statement apologizing to those fans because they likely wouldn’t be able to facilitate all of those requests at or near launch.
Even still, Nintendo knows that it’s not just about the launch numbers, but the numbers that come after that. The goal is absolutely for the Switch 2 to pass the lifetime sales of the OG Switch, which recently passed 152 million. That’s why they’re putting so much time into the promotional efforts before release. They want to make sure everyone knows the system is coming and that they need to get it.
