Grand Theft Auto is such a behemoth of a video game franchise that most gamers worldwide are watching Rockstar Games closely as they prepare Grand Theft Auto VI. The game is set to arrive next year, but that could leave room open this year for a remastered release of GTA 4.
We have been stuck with Grand Theft Auto V for ages now. It wasn’t long ago that we saw an attempt from Rockstar Games to remaster some of the previous installments of the franchise. We had Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in 2021, which saw remastered releases of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Of course, the reception was a bit mixed for that release. But perhaps we might see an overall better reception for a remastered Grand Theft Auto IV. The video game has recently been circulating online, with a rumor suggesting that a remastered edition might arrive this year, since GTA 6 was pushed back.
Now, we’re still waiting on confirmation on whether this is happening, but fans wonder if that was why the Liberty City Preservation Project was taken down. Regardless, while we wait for official word, a notable former developer is already hopeful that Rockstar Games will bring this release to the marketplace.
Obbe Vermeij was a technical director at Rockstar North from 1995 to 2009. He was involved in so many iconic game releases from the studio that a follower reached out on X in hopes he would share his thoughts on the rumors. While Obbe is only now learning about the rumors, he is all in favor of returning this game to the marketplace.
In his eyes, Niko was the best protagonist in any Grand Theft Auto game. Of course, now the wait continues to see if GTA 4 will see a remastered release or if we’ll be waiting for Grand Theft Auto VI when it arrives next May.
