Take-Two Interactive has just announced when they’ll reveal Mafia: The Old Country, but it’s possible that they were already pre-empted.

They shared this message on the official Steam page:
“On May 8 at 7pm BST and 2pm ET, watch as Hangar 13 developers debut a new Gameplay Trailer and offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at the past, present, and future of this storied franchise, live from their panel discussion via the PAX East Main Stream and the Mafia YouTube channel.
We’ll also be sharing a dedicated Steam post where you can watch our PAX East broadcast, streaming live right here on Steam! That post will be made at a later time.”
They go on to explain that Hangar 13’s leads will be there on the event, and they will be taking questions from fans. But then, there’s something strange about this Steam post.
As reported by Gematsu, several non-English versions of this message, such as in Spanish and Japanese, revealed that the game will be releasing on August 8, 2025. As of this writing, that release date has been removed from those posts, but not before some fans took screenshots. But Pandora’s box is out, and there’s really no way to pretend that we didn’t find out this release date nearly a month earlier.
On its own, this is certainly big news as it is. Mafia III, also developed by Hangar 13, was released all the way back in 2016. It will be nearly a decade since fans waited for this game, and Hangar 13 saw it fit to return the franchise to its Godfather-esque Italian crime family roots.
It also raises questions about its publisher, Take-Two Interactive. We already know that they scheduled Borderlands 4 to release this September 23, 2025. If some fans were wondering if Take-Two Interactive was willing to release Grand Theft Auto 6 before Borderlands 4, nobody is wondering anymore.
With two big games lined up for two consecutive months, it’s hard to see Take-Two release Grand Theft Auto 6 before either of them. While we don’t know Take-Two’s plans, it seems to make sense to release Grand Theft Auto 6 in time for the holidays. So, it’s possible that it releases before the end of October or the start of November.
We also know that Take-Two is bringing Borderlands 4 to the Switch 2, but is it possible that they would also bring Mafia: The Old Country and Grand Theft Auto 6 on the new console as well? And could they opt to delay those releases on the new console to spread them out more evenly? It’s certainly curious to see what the publisher has laid out for this year.
