We are just a little over a month away at this point when it comes to the anticipated second season of The Last of Us. Most of us can’t wait to see where the storyline goes and how it adapts to The Last of Us Part II. However, if you’ve been following the games since they were first released, you might remember the massive backlash the character Abby received. That backlash even bled over to Naughty Dog and the actress portraying the character.
We’re not going to start discussing spoilers here. The video game is accessible today if you want to get ahead of the show. However, we know that Abby will be present this upcoming season. Kaitlyn Dever will portray the character. Speaking with ScreenRant, the actress is aware of the past attention fans gave the character from the video game.
Still, Kaitlyn tries to avoid spending too much time on feedback from fans on the game. Instead, she wants to ensure that Abby is brought to life based on what showrunner Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann are after. There’s a focus on ensuring fans who tune into the show can see what drives Abby and her emotional state.
There’s also potential for deviations from the game in this upcoming season. Still, it might take a good while before we see the show can fully bring out the entire narrative of The Last of Us Part II. So, there’s a good chance we’ll spend plenty of time on Abby in the series outside of the characters we’ve come to know and love in season one.
Well, it’s hard not to see those things on the internet. It’s hard not to stop myself from looking at it every once in a while, especially going into this, for sure. And I want to do this character justice and make the fans proud by bringing her to life in this kind of way.
But my main focus was just the collaboration between Neil and Craig, and making sure I was really getting to the core of who she is and what drives her and her emotional state; her anger and her frustration and her grief and all of that. I wanted to make sure that that was what I was focusing most of my energy on. – Kaitlyn Dever
Unfortunately, we’re not sure what the end game is right now. Previous HBO EVP comments suggest that we should see about four seasons of this show to conclude the narrative. Meanwhile, gamers are waiting for a third installment to come out. Sadly, we also don’t know whether a third game is arriving, as even Neil Druckmann said not to bet on it.
For now, fans of the series can expect the upcoming season of The Last of Us to air on April 13, 2025. In the meantime, you can view the new official season two trailer right here.
