Today is “Mario Day” and that means that it’s time to celebrate the amazing game character in as many ways as possible. For Nintendo, they didn’t just dedicate an entire day around him, which they’ve done for a while now, but they’ve also made it so fans could get various things “attached” to him, including games and even attempt to win a 4-pack of tickets to Super Nintendo World. However, The Big N did have one big surprise in store, and that surprise was the reveal of the LEGO Mario Kart set that’ll arrive in May. As you can see, it’s a pretty interesting set.
The pre-order page for the LEGO Mario Kart set reveals the full details, including how the set features 1972 pieces and has a bit more than just Mario on his kart. In fact, if you buy the set, you’ll actually get a “Toad Pit Crew” figure to go along with it! What’s a driver without his pit crew, right? Here’s the official description from the website, along with the reveal video from Nintendo:
“Gear up for a creative adventure with the Mario Kart™ – Mario & Standard Kart (72037) build-and-display model for men, women and any fans. A delightful collectible gamer gift for adults, this Nintendo® construction set features a buildable Mario figure with a posable head and arms, sitting behind the wheel of the most iconic Mario Kart vehicle of all. Place the Standard Kart on the special stand, which allows you to show it at a dynamic angle as if it is being driven at speed or drifting in a Mario Kart race. This authentically detailed buildable model makes eye-catching LEGO® Super Mario™ decor in any fan’s bedroom, living room, game room or office.”
Now, we’ll be the first to admit that this won’t be a cheap set. LEGO doesn’t exactly “go easy” on the prices at times. The set will cost you $169 dollars, and it won’t ship until May 15th, but for many, it’ll still be worth it.
The timing of this isn’t just interesting; it’s almost poetic. Not only is it “Mario Day,” but the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct will feature Mario Kart, as it’s the only confirmed first-party game for the Switch 2 right now. Plus, the console isn’t likely to arrive until June or July, so the LEGO set will arrive before the system.
Either way, for Mario fans out there, this is a perfect way to go and celebrate your favorite plumber.
