Kojima Productions officially announced production of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach in 2022, but of course, we knew it was in development for much longer. Given that the first Death Stranding launched on PlayStation 4 all the way back in 2019, fans waited about the expected period of time for a AAA to be produced.
As Kojima’s first game after leaving Konami, Death Stranding was a landmark title in his career. Of course, it was also a personal title for Kojima’s fans, many of whom bought his games on PlayStation through the years. Death Stranding clearly embarks on a different path than Metal Gear, and Kojima has enough of a following that will allow him to indulge in his idiosyncrasies and personal preferences. So Death Stranding 2: On The Beach may prove just as divisive as the original, but we still feel it’s safe to call this one of the big releases of 2025.
