The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hits Over 2 Billion Mod Downloads

January 6, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Skyrim is still thriving nearly fifteen years later.

It’s hard to believe that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released nearly fifteen years ago. We’re still waiting for Bethesda to release the next major installment into the marketplace. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from enjoying the current latest mainline release. Fans have gone through everything they can officially from Bethesda with this game. So, with the official content out of the way, most have sought out mods to keep them engaged.

There are countless mods available for games. With a popular release like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you can find everything from new campaigns, areas, character additions, unique items, visual updates, and mods that add some quality-of-life elements to the game. At any rate, with as many years as the game has been available, we’re finding out that the base game just surpassed two billion downloads.

That’s quite outstanding, as it shows just how much love the community has for this game. We’re finding out that Nexus Mods have noted that the base game surpassed the two billion milestone, thanks to the folks over at Tech4Gamers. However, it’s worth noting that this milestone is only for the base game. Most have instead moved on to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. This edition comes packed with various add-ons, new features, and remastered aspects such as art and effects.

As a result, you’ll find that this edition of the game dramatically surpasses the base game in mod downloads, which sit at around six billion mod downloads. Still, they both surpass Fallout 4, Fallout New Vegas, and Cyberpunk 2077, the three titles that follow in terms of mod downloads.

If you’re unfamiliar with Nexus Mods, it is one of the most popular sources for uploading and sharing mods. The website features over 3,000 games and continues to grow with new releases in the marketplace. As for Bethesda, we’re still waiting for the team to pick up with the next installment of The Elder Scrolls franchise.
