Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Gets New Trailer To Highlight PS5 Pro “Enhancements”

November 4, 2024 by Todd Black

Behold the power of reflections!!!

2

As we are just days away from the full release of the PS5 Pro, you’ll hear from multiple developers, not to mention Sony itself, trying their best to hype up the console and all the reasons you should get it. Specifically, they’ll highlight how the standard PS5 games will get a “visual upgrade” on the PlayStation 5 Pro, making it the “definitive experience” for gamers to enjoy. One such team that’s doing that is Insomniac Games, who have dropped a new trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, featuring the team pointing out the new tweaks and touches to help make the game environment and character models more realistic and interactive than ever before.

For example, senior art director Jacinda Chew was in the trailer and noted how the team at Insomniac worked hard to put even more detail into their version of New York, including putting special attention to the reflections that you’ll see through buildings, vehicles, etc. Apparently, while the OG PS5 is powerful, there were restrictions that had to be implemented with reflections. Thus, things weren’t as “accurate” as they could’ve been. Yet, with the PS5 Pro version, that won’t be an issue, and the trailer showcases that.

The game’s creative director even went so far as to say that this is the “quintessential version” of the game on PS5, highlighting the true “boost in visual quality” that fans will appreciate.

That’s where things get tricky, though. While we have no doubt that the game will have visual improvements, it won’t have story or true gameplay improvements/additions. Don’t forget that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was well-reviewed at launch, and it was the fastest-selling PS5 game in history. However, as time went on and people finished the game’s campaign, they noticed quite a few flaws. Specifically, the Venom storyline was not as fleshed out as it could’ve been and paled in comparison to the original game’s campaign.

Many also felt that while the dual storyline between Miles and Peter was nice, Miles’ story wasn’t as good as Peter’s, yet the game’s ending implied that Miles is the “main Spider-Man” now.

That doesn’t even touch upon the fact that there was definitely meant to be DLC for the title, and now that’s been straight-up canceled, which leaves gamers feeling very unfulfilled. Finally, while the PS5 Pro version might be the “definitive version,” it’ll still require people to pay over $700 just to enjoy a “visual boost” for a game that’s been out for over a year now. Many aren’t going to partake in that, no matter how much the team loves the improvements.
