Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Gets Positive Score On Metacritic

October 7, 2024 by Todd Black

Going beyond the limit break.

October 11th will be a big day in the game world, and that’s for a simple reason: there are some BIG games coming out on it. First, for you, RPG lovers out there, Atlus is releasing its new IP, and it’s already getting some BIG buzz via its Metacritic score. The other title is Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, which is a title many have been waiting for since its first teaser announcement. Everything in the title has felt bigger and better than anything that came before it, with the team even admittedly learning from the past to make things grander.

So, with its own review embargo dropping, what did reviewers have to say about it? At present, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has a score of 84 on Metacritic. Admittedly, that might seem a little low, given all the hype and buzz around it, but let’s put that in context. That’s still a great score, and the only game from the series in recent times to do even better than that was Dragon Ball FighterZ, which also had an insane level of hype going into release. It got an 87 and is beloved to this day, so an 84 is nothing to scoff at.

But what exactly are reviewers saying to give it such a score? First, on the positive side, there were multiple perfect scores, including some from very reputable sites. Those reviews highlight how the game is not only the game that “fans have been waiting for,” but it’s also one that is “perfect for newcomers.” That’s good, as it’s easy for competitive fighting games like this to ignore new fans and focus on veterans.

Others noted that the game feels truly robust in every facet, from its beautiful visual style to the powerful state of gameplay to the numerous modes that’ll keep you busy for some time. Some even said it’s the “greatest fighting game ever made” or one of the “top titles of 2024.” High praise indeed.

As for the negatives, there are a few nitpicks that several reviews highlighted. Some felt that the multiplayer could be a bit better, and the “arena fighter genre” could still use some improvement. Others called out balance issues within certain modes, and a few felt that while it was good, its predecessors were better. Others noted that the game had too much of a “fanservice” element, versus making the game better overall.

Either way, the vast majority of scores are positive, so if you were hyped for this game, you’ll want to go get it.
