Square Enix has revealed more information about the new Monster Wrangler class in the upcoming title Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, along with new screenshots and information about in-game parties. Additionally, multiple outlets have shared gameplay footage ahead of the game’s release in November.
Monster Wrangler is a new Vocation added exclusively in the game’s remake, and these characters know more about the world’s monsters than most. Selecting this Vocation will allow players to befriend lonely creatures in the world, while also damaging multiple enemies in battle and gaining the ability to heal team members as well.
The Vocations available in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake include:
- Hero (Protagonist only)
- Monster Wrangler
- Warrior
- Martial Artist
- Mage
- Priest
- Merchant
- Gadabout
- Thief
- Sage (Not available as a starting Vocation)
In Dragon Quest III HD-2D, players will form a team of four characters to join their party. Unlike the original title, each character’s appearance can be customized and their voices can be selected.

“Years ago, the great hero Ortega bid farewell to his wife and child as he set off on a quest to defeat the villainous Archfiend, Baramos,” the game’s description reads. “Ortega failed his quest, and Baramos still threatens the world. Now, on their sixteenth birthday, Ortega’s only child is summoned by the king of Aliahan and entrusted with a mission of the highest import: to take on Ortega’s quest, vanquish Baramos, and save the world.”
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will be released on November 14 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remakes are coming sometime in 2025. The games were first released in 1986 and 1987, respectively.
