Life is Strange Original Director Weighs In On Deck Nine Bringing Max Caulfield Back

August 30, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Life is Strange’s original protagonist is making her return.

The Life is Strange franchise blew up with its debut title into the marketplace. That came out back in 2015 when players received a narrative-driven adventure game playing as a young woman named Max Caulfield. However, years have gone by with a series of new installments with new characters and storylines. But this latest installment will see the return of the original protagonist.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure takes place after the events of the first game, in which we once again step into the role of Max Caulfield. If you didn’t play the original Life is Strange, it’s well worth returning and giving it a play today. That said, if you’re familiar with the franchise, you know each protagonist seems to have ties to a unique power. For Max Caulfield, her power was the ability to rewind time.

Without spoiling anything from the original game, this new installment should help clear up what happened after you reached one of the two endings for Life is Strange. Likewise, we’ll get a look at Max and what she’s been up to after all these years. Recently, GamesRadar spoke with Michel Koch, the original director behind Life is Strange at Don’t Nod. During their conversation, the topic of his thoughts on Deck Nine bringing Max back came up.

I feel curious about it. I will definitely play the game when they release, and I looked at the trailer and I have some ideas of where they’re going, but [I’m] really not sure. So, yeah, I would say it’s exciting, even if it can be a bit weird.

It’ll be great to see where they go and it’s always great to see new narrative games, because there are not that many, to be honest. And this is the genre I prefer playing. I love playing. So I’m really happy when there are more and hopefully there will be more attention to it so the genre does not disappear. – Michel Koch

Michel is very interested in seeing what the studio opts to do with Max and progressing her storyline. While the original director does have some general ideas on where this storyline could go, he’s not quite sure. So you can bet Michel will play the game when it launches to see how the next chapter in Max’s life turns out.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure is set to launch on October 15, 2024. When the game is released, it will be available on the PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
