Treyarch has revealed that they are bringing back something old, and adding something new, for Call of Duty Black Ops 6.
As they explained in their blog, they are bringing back Classic Prestige, and also expanding on it. When you reach your maximum player level, you get to choose to enter Prestige. If you decide to go this route, you start your rank and levels over from level 1. This also means your gear has to be unlocked again, all the way to level 55.
There will be 10 Prestiges in Call of Duty Black Ops 6, with rewards scattered across the whole path to allow players to show off how far they have gone. After completing Prestige 10, you become a Prestige Master. You then get 1,000 more levels to play through, with the temptation of a ‘classified’ reward to keep you going.
Prestige will be available as soon as Call of Duty Black Ops 6 launches, so players won’t be hampered by level caps.
Alongside that, Treyarch is introducing new movement systems to change up how the game and its meta plays completely. Omnimovement allows players to sprint, slide, and dive in any direction. But even bigger than that, is Supine Prone.
Supine prone will have you laying on your back while in the prone position. You also have Omnimovement during supine prone, meaning you can move around 360 degrees in any direction in this position, and you can also flip to lie prone on your belly. This may all sound very silly to casual players, but these details are important in esports when you have to account for any variables in competitive play.
On top of that is an optional QOL system called Intelligent Movement. If you’ve played Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, this is pretty similar to that title’s Ninja Run mode. In Ninja mode, Raiden automatically jumps over and climbs up obstacles to move faster. In Call of Duty Black Ops 6, you can enable sprint assist, mantle assist, and crouch assist, so that the game will automatically do these actions for you without you having to press an extra button.
As we had mentioned, Intelligent Movement is optional. Advanced and esports players may choose to always have it enabled, but beginners who get confused with it may choose to turn it off. That Activision is adding this to a competitive game certainly raises questions on why games don’t just do these for you in 2024.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is releasing on October 25, 2024, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows, on Steam, Battle.net, and the Microsoft Store. It is also Day One on Game Pass.
