Upon its release for PC last March, Bleak Faith: Forsaken was quickly met with poor reviews, with many players frustrated by its clunky controls and bugs. Despite once being called a ‘technical nightmare,’ the game has since risen from the ashes, now being lauded by many as a worthy addition to the growing indie soulslike genre. Now, even more aspiring players will be able to get their hands on the title when it releases for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Developed by Archangel Studios, Bleak Faith: Forsaken was funded by a Kickstarter campaign established by developers Miso Vukcevic and Mirko Stanic in August 2019. The game is described as “a third-person open-world survival horror action RPG set in a universe you’ve never experienced before.”
The story continues on the game’s Kickstarter page.
“Play as one of the Forsaken, the last frontier of humanity against the growing horrors of the Omnistructure. As you find yourself stranded in a faraway outpost, you must adapt in order to survive. The world won’t wait for you though, you must venture into the unknown—your faith will decide your fate.”
While the game’s first reviews were anything but glowing, many people were able to see the potential in the game, which was made by a team of only three people. Since its release, it has seen plenty of patches to fix the more game-breaking bugs and to improve stability.
“We’ve become so much more capable over time, but there’s still room for us to work smarter and optimize our process,” said Vukcevic in a 2023 interview with Davidson College. “We want to show people that we’re not here for the money; we’re here to keep making the very best project we can, despite our unconventional development story.”
