Silent Hill Producer Offers An Update

January 2, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

A small update has surfaced for Silent Hill fans.

For fans of the Silent Hill franchise, there’s been a long gap between releases. It’s been a dormant IP for quite some time since Hideo Kojima split ways with Konami. But it was just a couple of years ago now that Konami unveiled that they were bringing Silent Hill back in a big way. Several games were unveiled, as well as some additional side projects like a new feature film from Christophe Gans. You might recall that in 2006, Christophe Gans delivered his take on Silent Hill in a film adaptation. Now he’s back to deliver a new installment if you’re after something outside of the video games.

But since then it’s been mainly radio silent on the franchise. We’ve, of course, received Silent Hill: Ascension, a streaming series that’s not necessarily a game per se. So those who are itching to dive back into this IP and settle in for a new survival horror scare have been left wondering just when the first of these upcoming games might be arriving. Well, while we don’t have a release date quite yet, a series producer for the franchise did offer a small update.

Thanks to Siliconera, we’ve learned that Famitsu had the chance to speak with several industry veterans. One of them was Motoi Okamoto, who is the lead producer for the Silent Hill franchise. Motoi commented that Konami wants to make the Silent Hill series exciting in video games alongside other entertainment mediums. One of these is Silent Hill: Ascension, which started its release in November of last year.

However, Motoi noted that thirst ear we will finally liven it up with games. Unfortunately, we don’t have any specific dates or titles that will be arriving in the marketplace before 2024 comes to a close. But there is plenty of speculation that we’ll see the Silent Hill 2 remake first arrive. That was one of the big titles revealed when Konami revealed plans to bring this franchise back into the limelight. Likewise, this was a massive game that is still credited as an inspiration for developers today.

We know that Silent Hill 2 is being developed under Bloober Team. These are the folks who previously brought out the Layers of Fear franchise along with The Medium. There’s only one trailer for the game so far, which you can view below. Likewise, when this game is released into the marketplace, we’ll find it available for the PC and PlayStation 5 platforms.
