The Last of Us Part II Remastered Director Explains Why Fans Should Be Excited

December 5, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

After three years, we’re already getting a remastered edition.

It might have felt a bit rushed by some fans, but there’s a reason why we’re getting a remastered release for The Last of Us Part II. If you don’t recall, The Last of Us Part II only launched a few years ago, so for some players, it doesn’t seem like a title worth the purchase. However, the game director behind the project, Matthew Gallant, explains why fans should be excited. Part of the reason behind picking this game up or going for the upgrade fee is due to the next-generation hardware. Naughty Dog is able to take advantage of different areas behind the PlayStation 5, which will help players enjoy the game all over again.

Speaking to GamesRadar, Matthew Gallant noted that there are going to be a lot of players that would pick this game up due to it being made for the next-gen tech upgrade. You will see increased visuals, haptic integration, and faster loading. There’s also the benefit of choosing various modes, such as going for a more performance-focused experience or something that helps boost the fidelity. Those reasons alone will help pave the way for consumers to purchase this game or make the upgrade fee if they already own a copy from when the title launched on PlayStation 4.

However, Matthew goes on to say that even if the next-generation tech is not playing a factor in gauging interest with fans, the other notable features should. There’s more content for fans to enjoy in this game, such as the Lost Levels, which helps give an idea of what content was cut prior to being released. Then there’s also the ability to have a guitar free play mode to toy around the ability to recreate songs. We’ve certainly seen quite a few of these YouTube videos where players were able to replicate some iconic tunes using the in-game guitar.

But beyond that, there is another major feature being added to the game, and that is the No Return mode. This is a new roguelike mode where players can drop into a level and attempt to survive. With different modifications and enemies that could pop up in these levels, it’s a gameplay experience that will help test the player’s mettle. There was even a new video trailer upload highlighting this game mode, which you can check out right here. Overall, these runs will offer different challenges to keep players coming back, and you’re even getting access to different characters, each with unique attributes.

Currently, The Last of Us Part II Remastered is set to launch on January 19, 2024. You can find the game available on the PlayStation 5 platform when it is released. In the meantime, you can view a trailer for the game embedded below.
