The Last of Us Part II Remastered Won’t Feature TV Characters

November 28, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Neil Druckmann shoots down the crossover idea.

There is quite a large fan base for The Last of Us. This game first hit the marketplace in 2013 and continues to see a ton of love today. We only have two mainline installments, but they have recently found themselves getting a resurgence. After HBO’s live-action adaptation, a slew of new fans who never played the games are now flocking toward these epic action-adventure experiences. Fortunately, The Last of Us Part II was recently unveiled to have a remastered edition in the works, and for fans that have a PlayStation 5, you’ll soon get to continue on the storyline from where season one left off.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered will take place a few years after the events of The Last of Us Part I, which is also the game season one of the HBO adaptation covered. However, while you will get the same storyline and gameplay experience from when The Last of Us Part II initially launched, some extra goodies are featured. For instance, the No Return mode is a new aspect of the game. This is a roguelike mode that has players battling it out against a slew of different enemies. So those of you who want to test your mettle and see how well you can survive a run might find this game mode of interest.

Beyond that, there is the ability to pick a character to go through No Return mode. You’re not just locked into a specific character. A variety of characters will be available, and each will have unique attributes. That should allow players to go through the game with the ability to pick a character that matches up with their particular playstyle. We don’t know who will be present in No Return, but don’t expect any of the TV adaptation series’ exclusive characters to appear.

Recently, Entertainment Weekly spoke with Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann about whether we might see some TV series characters featured. Neil noted that there won’t be any featured and that the characters that show up will all be from The Last of Us Part II. So those even hopeful for some surprise returns from The Last of Us Part I will also be let down. For now, we’ll have to wait and see which characters appear in this game mode when the title does launch into the marketplace. Currently, The Last of Us Part II Remastered Will be released on January 19, 2024, for the PlayStation 5 platform.
