Charles Martinet Is Not Involved With Super Mario Bros. Wonder

August 21, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Has a replacement already been found?

It surprised quite a few fans today when Nintendo revealed that Charles Martinet is stepping back. If you don’t recall who this individual is, that would be the voice of Mario. For decades, Charles has breathed life into Mario, giving us the iconic phrases for which the character has become known. However, in the future, we know that Charles will no longer lend his voice to Mario. So when news broke this close to the upcoming release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, it was expected that this would be Charles’ last performance as Mario.

Unfortunately, that’s not the case, so all the games Charles is associated with for Mario are wrapped up and in the books. This news came from IGN as a spokesperson for Nintendo reached out and clarified that Nintendo’s upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wonder will not feature Charles Martinet as the voice of Mario. So the big question is, who has taken over the role of Mario in this game? Well, it looks like even Nintendo is not interested in making that announcement quite yet. Instead, you’ll have to wait for the game to launch into the marketplace.

If you wanted insight into who will be taking on the role of Mario going forward, the earliest we might learn who might be could be October 20, 2023. That’s the official release date drop for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which the spokesperson pointed out. Nintendo is not revealing the actor taking the role but instead points to the credits where the voice actors will be listed. It’s worth pointing out that even though Charles is not voicing Mario in the upcoming new platformer for the franchise, he’s not completely stepping away from Nintendo or Mario.

In the future, you’ll see Charles Martinet as the Mario Ambassador. So we imagine Charles will continue to remain involved with Nintendo for years. We just don’t see his name appear in the credits of future Mario video games. So, for now, the mystery remains as to who might be lending their talents to Mario and if this next game will retain the actor involved for years to come. Again, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the next major installment for Mario fans. This game will land in the Nintendo Switch marketplace on October 20, 2023. In the meantime, you can check out a trailer for the upcoming title in the video we have embedded below.
