30 Minutes of Dead Island 2 Gameplay Surface On Steam

April 17, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

Fighting zombies has never been more unpleasant and visceral.

A full 30 minutes of gameplay have surfaced for Dead Island 2.

We reported earlier on a 11 minute gameplay preview for Dead Island 2. This was provided by IGN, but of course they aren’t the only entities who were given permission to stream the game early.

This new video covers what was shown in that preview and then some. While it seems that this was allowed to be shown on stream, since it is both spoilers for the game and quite graphic, we won’t be putting the video below. If you do want to see it, you can watch the preview here.

If you are curious but prefer not to watch the preview, we’ll share a text description of the happenings below. We will also be judicious and not share some really important spoilers, so you can enjoy learning them when you get to playing it.

As we had previously covered, the IGN preview showed the consequences of a fatal airplane crash, that led to the player character having to roam a zombie infected LA.

But in the preview video before that, we find out that before the flight had even boarded, there was already a zombie infestation going on. It’s even highly suggested that the plane flew just in time before it would get overrun by zombies.

Dambuster Studios had already revealed the roster of player characters. While the IGN preview showed you playing Ryan, someone who seemed to be an average white male player avatar, this new footage was played using the game’s cover star, Jacob.

Now, the IGN preview also showed you meeting a celebrity named Emma, who soon runs off to her home. Before she leaves, she gives you her address in the hopes that you follow her.

In the gameplay that follows that IGN preview, you wake up the next day in LA, making your way to Emma’s home. As Jacob, you seem to know how to hotwire and hack security systems, and so you open up a locked gate. Unfortunately, Emma’s posh neighborhood is also already overridden with zombies, so you’re going to have to fight them all the way through. This preview ended with a game over, so we don’t know quote yet if you ever eventually catch up to Emma, or what happens after that.

Dead Island 2 will be released on April 21, 2023, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows, on Steam and Epic Games Store.
