Metacritic Crowns Arkham City Best Reviewed Game of 2011

January 13, 2012 by Josh Harmon

The PS3 version narrowly inched out Skyrim on the 360 to claim the title.

The PS3 version of Batman: Arkham City was the best video game of 2011, according to review aggregator Metacritic. The race was apparently an incredibly close one, with The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim for the Xbox 360 falling just "a few decimal points" behind.

Two top two games both charted twice in the top 10, while the various incarnations of Portal 2 nabbed the third, fourth and fifth slots. Rounding out the list are The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for the 3DS, Mass Effect 2 for the PS3, and Minecraft for the PC.

All told, the numbers prove something most of us already knew: 2011 was one of the greatest years for gaming in recent memory. According to Metacritic, 32 games finished the year with a score of 90 or higher, the highest number they've recorded in the last five years.

The full writeup, including a breakdown of average scores by platform, can be found over at Metacritic.
