From Software's action RPG/torture device Dark Souls might be getting DLC soon, if new rumors are to be believed.
A report from EGM, citing an unnamed "source close to the project", claims that a downloadable expansion is currently being prepped for release within the first quarter of 2012. That's apparently all they were able to get out of their source, but the article goes on to speculate that a Japanese trademark filed by From Software for the phrase "Yami no Mori" — "Forest of Darkness" in English — might be related to this DLC.
It's not a lot to go off, but "Forest of Darkness" certainly sounds like it'd fit right in with Blighttown, Undead Burg, and other depressingly named Dark Souls locations.
Back in November, Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki told Game Informer that he had no plans to bring DLC to the game, as he wanted to ensure that the on-disc content felt like "a complete package." Perhaps this new report means Miyazaki's had a change of heart or that someone else is heading up the project.
