The Lord of the Rings is a massive franchise, and it seems to have received a new notable resurgence. Thanks to the Amazon prequel series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, more fans might be interested in visiting Middle-earth. There are a couple of games coming out that might scratch that itch for you. For starters, there is The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, a survival-crafting game slated to release on PC this year. Meanwhile, we also have The Lord of the Rings: Gollum title which is an action-adventure experience following the iconic character Gollum.
In particular, we know that the narrative in this title is set between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Gollum will be our main focus here, and while the game was unveiled in March of 2019, the title, unfortunately, received a series of delays. The developer, Daedalic Entertainment, is still chipping away at the game. While we only have a launch window of 2023, we can narrow it down just a tiny bit. This also comes from a recent earnings report which mentioned the title.
Daedalic Entertainment is having this game published in part with Nacon, and it was during Nacon’s earnings report that the title came up. It looks like the publisher has noted that the game will be released within the first half of FY 2023-2024. That essentially means that the earliest The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will hit the marketplace will be in April, but it could also mean waiting until September. So unfortunately, those of you who wanted to pick this game up early in the year might be waiting just a little while longer.
Of course, most fans might be alright with delayed announcements. This means that the game should perform better when it does find its way out into the marketplace. But with the game that was initially supposed to launch in 2021, the series of delays might be a bit frustrating for some fans at this point. At any rate, we do know that when The Lord of the Rings: Gollum does launch into the marketplace, it will be available for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch platforms. In the meantime, while we wait for more news to come out on this game, you can check out the trailer for the title in the video embedded above.
