The Lord Of The Rings: Return To Moria Revealed

June 10, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

Tolkien fans are eating well in 2022.

A brand new game set in J. R. R. Tolkien’s legendary fantasy world has been revealed at today’s Epic Games Summer Showcase. The Lord of the Rings: Return To Moria is a survival crafting game set during the Fourth Age of Middle-earth that will be coming exclusively to PC via the Epic Games Store.

The game, which has been developed by indie studio Free Range Games and is being published by North Beach Games, will see players stepping into the shoes of Middle-earth’s dwarves as they set out on a brand new adventure to take back their ancestral home of Moria, deep in the Misty Mountains. As miners, the dwarves will need to craft, dig and build different ways to explore their way through the tunnels and caverns of Moria, presenting players with a range of creative opportunities to progress through the game. Check out the reveal trailer right here to get a feel for the high fantasy action.

Chris Scholz, CEO of Free Range Games, shared plenty of excitement and enthusiasm about the game’s reveal via a press release this afternoon.

We at Free Range Games are absolutely thrilled to finally reveal The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. J.R.R. Tolkien and all of his creations within Middle-earth are near and dear to our hearts, and this project presents an amazing opportunity to create new experiences born from one of the greatest stories ever told. We are pouring a lot of passion into the game to give players an unforgettable experience.

Chris Scholz, CEO, Free Range Games

It’s been revealed that the realm of Moria will feature procedurally generated environments, meaning that players’ solo and online co-op adventures through the mountains will be different on every trip. Co-op online multiplayer can accommodate up to eight players, meaning your exploration party can be the size of your very own Fellowship. It looks like there’ll be plenty to do whilst players are busy restoring the long-lost ancient kingdom of Khazad-dûm, especially if resource gathering and survival gameplay tick your boxes.

The Lord of the Rings: Return To Moria will be launching in the spring of 2023, but eager players can wishlist the game now over on the Epic Games Store.
