Are We Getting A Super Mario Odyssey Sequel Announcement This Year?

January 17, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

A new email from Nintendo has some fans anticipating a sequel.

Mario games are always a massive hit when they release into the marketplace. But we had a behemoth of a video game release for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo delivered a new thrilling Mario experience with Super Mario Odyssey. It had become a massive success for Nintendo, leaving fans still picking this game up today. Although, if you’re holding out to hope that a sequel could be coming, a new email might interest you. Apparently, this year, Nintendo is bringing the game back up in an email that sparks plenty of speculation and rumors to ramp up the future of Mario.

Now, there is no shortage of rumors or speculation pieces popping up regarding the different franchises from Nintendo. However, the latest buzz that is spreading online today is that we might have an announcement regarding a new Mario game. While there were rumors of a new 2D Mario title in the past, this latest seems to hint at a sequel to Super Mario Odyssey. This sparked up because of an email Nintendo had started to send out. Apparently, Nintendo is asking players about their moments from the Super Mario Odyssey release. Being in 2023, the email seems to be a bit out of nowhere.

Uh… Nintendo is emailing me and others about Mario Odyssey in 2023. They REALLY want us to play the game again…

I wonder why? 😉 pic.twitter.com/SV683J8CaV

Some fans assume this might be the start of hyping up a new installment. If you haven’t already played Super Mario Odyssey, this was a new 3D Mario title that had Mario rescuing Princess Peach from the evil Bowser all over again. However, what made this game a bit unique is Mario had a magical cap that could allow him to take control of just about anything within the game. Likewise, this game had Mario traveling to different planets, which offered some drastically different backdrops for players to progress through.

Of course, this marketing email might be a ploy to get fans excited about the upcoming film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Regardless, it’s a waiting game to see if we get any new Mario titles this year. Those announcements likely will be held for a future Nintendo Direct, something we’ve been waiting on since 2023 rolled in. At any rate, if you haven’t played Super Mario Odyssey, then it’s readily available to pick up right now on the Nintendo Switch platform. In fact, we have a Before You Buy video coverage for the title, which you can view in the video embedded below.
