Starfield Just Got A Different Launch Date On Steam

January 13, 2023 by Alexandra Nicholson

It’s all still pretty vague, to be honest.

As further details begin to emerge about Bethesda’s latest space epic Starfield, those looking forward to exploring the world of Constellation are still wondering when exactly the game will be released. It’s fair to say that Starfield is already one of the most hotly-anticipated titles of 2023. However, fans have been waiting for confirmation of a new launch date after the title was pushed back from last November to a pretty vague “2023.”

Although Bethesda provided a fairly recent confirmation that this 2023 release window would be “in the first half of 2023,” there’s been little else said on when exactly players can expect to start their Starfield expeditions. However, with the news of the game being given its own standalone stream event as opposed to being featured during the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct on January 25, it seems that eager players will have to wait a little bit longer for a more concrete launch date.

Having said that, the Steam page for Starfield just underwent a subtle change that may leave some prospective players scratching their heads. As if “the first half of 2023” wasn’t quite vague enough, it now looks like Valve’s platform has decided to act similarly non-committal when it comes to Starfield’s expected release date. Whereas the game’s Steam page had previously published its release date as “2023,” the Starfield listing on Steam has now been mysteriously changed to an even less convincing “coming soon.”

What exactly this means, we’ll have to wait and see. It may be that those in the know at Valve have simply changed the expected release date in response to the news of Starfield getting its own showcase soon. Presumably, there may be news on a projected launch date for the game coming up in the standalone stream, so the date change on its Steam page may actually be a good thing. Some might argue that “coming soon” sounds as if the game is more imminent than the generic “2023” makes out. On the flip side, others may view the “coming soon” label as being even vaguer than the 12-month window of time “2023” provides.

At this point, it’s all speculative. Either way, we may get some mention of Starfield during the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct. If not, however, it’s clear that the title will be getting its own special showcase at some point pretty soon, so we might finally get a date for the space odyssey’s launch when that airs.

Starfield is expected to be released at some point this year and will be available exclusively on Xbox Series X/S, PC via Windows and Steam and also on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
