Planet Coaster Art Director Unleashes Astonishing Detailed Footage

March 3, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

New incredible pre-alpha footage shown off for Planet Coaster.

Planet Coaster is slated to release towards the end of this year and if you’re a fan of tycoon games or more specifically the Roller Coaster Tycoon franchise then there’s no doubt you’ll love Planet Coaster. This upcoming spiritual successor by developers Frontier Developments was shown off during a livestream where the art director, John Laws, released footage with jaw-dropping detail. Even if you never touched a tycoon game before, this may peak your interest enough to pick the game up when it officially launches.

Astonishingly enough, the video we’re from the livestream is the game footage is pre-alpha. The level of detail that is going into the game so far looks remarkable even with the occasional flickering in certain areas within the map. Being the art director, John Laws has taken a keen interest in delivering gamers a level of detail that takes gamers into an immersive theme park. Throughout the footage, viewers can see various rides, shops, restaurants, and families.

Customization is key with Planet Coaster as gamers can create their ideal park filled with rides, custom colors, shops, and signs to sway attendees to make a purchase or two. However, the building and construction are just one aspect to the Planet Coaster as gamers also play the role of manager. If you played previous installments to the Roller Coaster Tycoon franchise then you’ll feel right at home with the gameplay mechanics.

As mentioned, this is a spiritual successor instead of a continuation to Frontier Developments Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. The reason behind this decision was that the developers felt the Tycoon name was tarnished with less than stellar installments added with the name. So far this video game is shaping up more than nicely, but we want to know your thoughts on the game. Are you planning on picking up Planet Coaster? Let us know by leaving a comment down below.
