Resident Evil Village: Winters Expansion Now Available for Switch

December 7, 2022 by John McDonald

And it comes with new features!

The Resident Evil Village: Winters expansion finally comes to Switch

For most people, the Resident Evil Village: Winters expansion has been available since October 28, but for all you Nintendo Switch users out there, it meant a little bit of a wait to get your hands on it. The wait is over though because the expansion is now available for Nintendo Switch, and the DLC introduces new features to the eight instalment in the long-running horror series.

Some of the new features you can find are the additions of a third-person mode, some more playable characters for the bonus mode, The Mercenaries: Extra Missions, as well as an epilogue to the main Shadows of Rose story. As you might be well aware the Resident Evil Village: Winters expansion and the Gold Edition of the game (which is a bundle of the base game and the DLC) is already available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with a Mac version also being worked on as well.

What does this expansion pack offer we hear you ask? The Winters expansion offers a trifecta of new ways to enjoy the award-winning game. The very forceful Resident Evil community has long suggested that a “third-person mode” should be incorporated into the game, which is what the game got. This allows players to experience Ethan Winter’s journey from a completely different angle and with brand-new animations.

In The Mercenary Extra Missions, Ethan is joined by three new playable characters that include Chris Redfield, Lord Heisenberg, and Lady Dimitrescu. Each character will battle it out with a wide array of weapons and skills, and on top of that, this arcade-inspired mode also includes additional stages and some game balancing improvements.

The final addition to this mighty trifecta is an add-on to the Shadow of Rose story, which involves a new story that is set 16 years after the events of the original campaign. The narrative follows Rose Winters (this time in adult form) as she frantically searches for a cure for the unwanted powers she has. What awaits the grown-up Rose is a chaotic realm of consciousness that must be explored, and ironically, only Rose’s powers can help her survive this nightmare.

If you’re one of those try before you buy types of people, then you can play the demo for Resident Evil Village by accessing it on the Nintendo eShop. This is the cloud version of the demo which means you will only be able to play it for a limited time. You can purchase the full game through the same app if you like what you see.
