16 of The Game Awards Nominees Are On Xbox Game Pass – And One Is Coming Next Year

Dec 5, 2022 Ryan Parreno

You can probably guess Starfield is in there, but you more likely don't know some of the others.

Microsoft shared a very interesting press release pointing out that 16 of the games nominated in this year’s The Game Awards is on Xbox Game Pass now  – with one game coming later next  year.

Of course, the 17th game is Starfield, Bethesda Studios’ massive space exploration game exclusive to Xbox consoles and PC. But we’ll go through the other 16 games as well. This may be the first time you will be learning about some of these games.

As Dusk Falls is an interactive fiction game, which lets you choose what direction the story goes. However, this game has interesting alternate methods to make those choices in multiplayer. Some people can play along by using a mobile app instead of the controller, and you can even integrate Twitch to affect those outcomes.

Citizen Sleeper is a survival RPG set in a distant space station with a lot of tabletop RPG elements. It centers a dire, but engaging narrative about survival and poverty, in a world full of multiple systems and quests to accomplish.

Dune: Spice Wars is a 4X real time strategy game based on the original Dune novels license, and the latest such RTS in the Dune franchise. This time the game is being developed by Evoland developers Shiro Games. This one is still in Game Preview, Xbox’s version of Early Access, so to be nominated this early must mean it’s already very polished.

Immortality is the latest interactive fiction game from Sam Barlow, the creator of Her Story and Telling Lies. This time, you watch clips from three unfinished films of a missing actress, and find clues to uncover her fate, and possibly yours.

A Memoir Blue is an interactive narrative game, in the form of a poem. As you watch an athlete swimmer’s childhood memories, you interact with them to push the game forward.

Metal Hellsinger is a rhythm based first person shooter with a hellish rock metal theme. You can read our prior coverage of it here.

No Man’s Sky is a space exploration game that you have probably already heard of. We most recently covered the mixed reception to the game’s latest Waypoint update.

Norco is an unsettling adventure game, set in an alternate version of the real life town of Norco, Louisiana. The real life Norco is the location of a Shell refinery. The video game Norco makes you explore this town, filled with a lot of strange characters, but with a fiction that depicts a harsh reality.

A Plague Tale: Requiem  continues the story of Amicia and Hugo De Rune, now on the road to Southern France to find a cure for Hugo’s ‘powers’. We most recently reported on its latest patch.

Return To Monkey Island is the long awaited return of Ron Gilbert to the LucasArts franchise that we once thought would never happen.  He most recently discussed the possibility of even another sequel.

Scorn is a bleak adventure puzzle game set in an alien atmosphere so reminiscent of HR Giger it hurts.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a 16-bit beat-em-up tribute, fittingly enough, made by Tribute Games.

Total War: Warhammer III is the most accomplished incarnation of Creative Assembly’s fantasy large scale strategy franchise, with combined real time and turn based gameplay elements.

Two Point Campus is another throwback business simulation game from Two Point Studios, taking the shenanigans to a school campus.

Tunic is a The Legend of Zelda-like action RPG, eschewing the famously androgynous Link for an anthropomorphic fox.

Finally, Vampire Survivors is a surprisingly addictive, minimalist shooter with roguelite elements.
