Gotham Knights Heroic Assault Mode Has Arrived

Nov 29, 2022 Todd Black

Plus, a showdown looms.

When Gotham Knights was announced, it made it clear that the game’s intent was to take the focus off of Batman and put it on the four primary proteges he raised over his crime-fighting career. With him dead, players would get to choose one of them and fight for the soul of Gotham in his stead. The catch was that while there was co-op in the game, it was only 2-player. As a result, you couldn’t go into the main world with all four characters at once. However, a workaround has been done via the Heroic Assault mode, which is live now.

You’ll team up with three partners in it, and each of you will take one of the four Bat-Family members. Then, you’ll dive down into the city’s depths, take on thirty floors of threats, and attempt to survive them all. But why are there so many villains in the depths? Because they’re all being controlled by the alien starfish known as Starro! It’s controlling them all, and Starro is at the bottom. So you must make your way through each floor to get to him and end the madness!

But be warned, it’s not only the base villains you have to worry about, as a surprise villain makes their debut at the end of the reveal:

Yep, it’s Man-Bat! That’ll be a new challenge for you to face in the game, and it won’t be the only one. Because if you watched the full Gotham Knights trailer above, you’d have seen the reveal of the 2-player Showdown mode. You’ll take on past bosses who have been powered up a bit and will test you even more than they did in the main game! So that’s two new modes for you to enjoy via this free update.

One could argue that this update will bring some “goodwill” to the title, and most would agree that the game needs it. However, despite being in development for a while, the title didn’t resonate with fans at launch. The open world was too empty, the missions and combat were repetitive, and so on.

It also didn’t help that the game was capped at 30 FPS, even on the next-gen consoles. But, when they tried to play the game, it couldn’t maintain 30 FPS!

So while this free update is a solid gesture to make the game better and more robust, it doesn’t fix all the game’s problems. WB Montreal still has its work cut out for it.
