Uncharted 4 Developers Talk Color-Blind Casting, Plotting Drake’s Final Run

Naughty Dog was bold in addressing several controversies surrounding Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End in a new interview, including plotting out the Nathan Drake’s final run.

Neil Druckmann addressed another recent controversy head-on regarding the color-blind casting of Laura Bailey as a POC antagonist, mercenary Nadine Ross. Druckmann made a surprise revelation; they also did casting the other way around, with a black actor playing a white character. Druckmann says we won’t know who this character is until closer to the game’s release. In both cases, Druckmann professes the team listened to the voices first before deciding on the character details, including their ethnicities.

What follows next are story spoilers, spoiled by Naughty Dog themselves. If you still haven’t read story details and don’t want to, you can stop reading here.

Naughty Dog discussed the choice to bring back long missing brother Sam into Nathan’s life. It’s an angle that provides one last tinge of conflict in Nathan’s life, in many meaningful ways. Sam and Nathan have a history predating the games, and Naughty Dog will explore how they have each changed since then. Sam also drives a wedge between Nathan and Elena, even as he prods Nathan back into a life of adventure.

Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End will launch on March 18, 2016, exclusively on PlayStation 4. As Naughty Dog is not afraid to reiterate, this is the last adventure of Nathan Drake.
