Nowgamer.com had a chance to talk with LittleBigPlanet Vita Executive Producer, Pete Smith, today and he had some interesting things to say about the sequel. During the conversation, it was revealed that the Vita iteration of LittleBigPlanet will be bigger than both PS3 versions. Smith described it as “crazily big” with everything the other two games had plus a whole new set of levels and tools. He also praised the Vita itself saying Smartphones can’t compete with it when it comes to “gigantic” games.
It was also revealed that there won’t be PS Vita/PS3 cross-play when the PS Vita and LBP Vita arrive, despite Sony demonstrating this ability earlier. Smith claims that they were planning a port of the game, but the more and more compromises occurred as they “started playing about with things.”
Backwards compatibility would undoubtedly would be riddled with issues, Smith added, "What if you're making a Vita version on PS3 and it's got rear touch? How do you test that? What if I've created it on my Vita and it's got front touch but it goes up on PS3? It's not a port of the PS3 – LittleBigPlanet Vita is its own game."
