Square Enix made an exciting move in 2018. The company decided to craft up a new internal development studio by adding staff from other development teams under Square Enix. This resulted in the creation of Luminous Productions. Initially, the new division was meant to create not only video games but other forms of entertainment media. However, it wasn’t long into the life cycle of Luminous Productions that video game development became the sole focus for the team. With the use of Luminous Engine, developers began work on Project Athia.
Eventually, gamers around the world would finally get the unveiling of this new game which is now dubbed Forspoken. With this new IP, players are getting a new thrilling fantasy experience that features a female protagonist by the name of Frey Holland. Frey is a young woman who is living in New York City. However, at the start of our journey, Frey suddenly becomes transported into a unique fantasy world. Using an assortment of magical powers and abilities, Frey will have to fight for survival in this strange world.
Initially, Luminous Productions had planned for Square Enix to ship Forspoken out into the marketplace within October of 2022. However, that didn’t happen, as the studio was forced into delaying the release until 2023. Likewise, there is an exclusive deal in place for this Forspoken title, so you’ll want to ensure you have a platform on which this game will be available on launch. Otherwise, you might be waiting a couple of years for the game to end its exclusivity deal.
Is Forspoken A PlayStation 5 Exclusive?
Forspoken has been quite the hyped and anticipated video game release for 2023. While the development team Luminous Productions had hoped to see this game launch out into the marketplace in 2022, they ultimately delayed its release. Fortunately, the delay wasn’t too substantial. Currently, the developers are looking to release this game early into the upcoming year. However, you might want to make sure that you have a platform available to play this game when it does eventually make its way out.
Square Enix’s Luminous Productions team has unveiled that this game is a timed exclusive release. Forspoken will only launch on PC and PlayStation 5. So for a period of time, you will only find Forspoken available on the PlayStation 5 console. But that doesn’t mean this game will stay on the console platform forever. The timed exclusive deal is only lasting two years. After that time expires, you might see this game come out to competitor console platforms like the Xbox Series X/S. Although, we don’t have the official announcement regarding an Xbox Series X/S console platform release just yet.
Either way, if you have a PlayStation 5, you’re set to start Frey Holland’s journey right at launch. Although, if you’re not equipped with a PlayStation 5, the alternative is a capable PC that can run this game. For now, it’s a waiting game, as Forspoken will not release until January 24, 2023.
