Terraria Is the First Game to Hit One Million Steam Reviews

As well as maintaining an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ status

Some of the things we see on Steam tell us a lot about video games as a whole. The millions of people that use the service are a truthful bunch, sugarcoating opinions is never an option, and because of that, there’s a lot to be believed in those highly eloquent words. Today, it has been revealed that the action-adventure sandbox game Terraria has become the first game to receive one million reviews on Steam as well as maintaining an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ status.

To be precise, Terraria has received 1,00,308 reviews overall on Steam, with 97.86 percent of those being positive ones, while the game itself also has a rating of 97.11. For those that don’t know, Overwhelmingly Positive games are those that have a rating of over 95 percent and have had at least 500 reviews. It’s quite an impressive feat, all things considered, although Terraria is quite an impressive game, one that has built a massive following since it was released in 2011.

Terraria is an action-adventure game developed by Re-Logic. Players will have the very world they hold so dear at their fingertips, as the fight for survival remains incredibly important. The game emphasizes the need for crafting and building things with sandbox-style creativity and an exploration aspect that will leave you on the edge of your handcrafted seat. The player must decide what they want to get up to the most, will you dive deeper into the caves seeking treasure? Or maybe your objective is to seek out greater goals? Maybe it’s the need to test yourself in battle? Whatever it is, you will need to construct your own city while housing the ailing and the lost, and also battling any enemies you may come across.

The fact that Terraria is now the first game to receive one million Steam reviews means that there must have been some other games that came to close the title first. Garry’s Mod is second on the list and extremely close to joining Terraria as well. Gary’s Mod has almost 900,000 reviews and a rating of 95.85 percent. They might seem close but in reality, that’s a fairly impressive winning margin.

Terraria doesn’t take the top spot in every category though because it is only fifth in the highest number of positive reviews on Steam. PUBG: Battlegrounds, Grand Theft Auto 5, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive all beat it in that category, which is nothing to be down about because these are great games. Although, where Terraria bests them once again is in its overall rating, which is higher than all four games.

One of the reasons why Terraria is so highly rated – even after all these years – is because it has received regular updates since day one. The latest update was back in April when a Don’t Starve crossover was added as well as better Steam Deck support. Terraria’s next update, Labor of Love, is set for September and will be released on all platforms.
