One of the things that is heavily debated by fans of certain properties nowadays is “whether we should listen to critics”. Because after all, more times than not, the ones who review things like movies, TV shows, video games and so on are in the minority in that they are just “one opinion” versus potentially millions of people who will watch, listen, or play and might have a different opinion. The catch though is that sometimes these reviews can be a good “snapshot” of an “overall opinion” and open up discussions you wouldn’t have thought of on your own. One such discussion is about the true “quality” of Thor Love And Thunder.
Why is that? Well, after 406 critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie now holds a 66% rating (and apparently flirted with a 65% not too long ago). Making it the second-lowest rated MCU movie ever. Tied ironically with Thor the Dark World, which many said was definitely “the worst Thor movie” at one point in time. The only thing lower than these two Thor movies is the Eternals film. Which…we agree on that one.
It also should be noted that despite a big opening at the box office when it opened, Thor Love And Thunder has had quite the dropoff, only recently crossing $300 million domestically, and it looks like it won’t be able to catch the gross that was made by Thor Ragnarok worldwide, which is…honestly a disappointment considering how well that one did, AND the fact that the 4th film actually had a bigger opening than the previous one.
Fans and critics are very much divided as to whether the incredibly fast and loose plot, the overwhelming comedy and plenty of logic issues can be looked over to “see the movie within”. You be the judge.
