Overwatch is returning to beta this February, Blizzard has announced. The game went on hiatus shortly before Christmas, with most of its developers working on the data they compiled over the early testing period.
Since then, Blizzard has remained quiet on what its plans are with the game, hinting only at the addition of a progression system that rewards players with vanity-based character customization.
Today, the studio says that the game will be returning in mid-February with an all new game mode to shake things up.
"While progress has been great and the team has been working super hard to get everything implemented on time, we're not quite ready to bring the Closed Beta back online just yet. We've been pretty open about the fact that we could slip into February from the beginning, but a big reason for this delay is that we really wanted to add one more big feature to the next beta patch," wrote Blizzard.
The studio did not elaborate on what the mode was, which could be anything from Capture the Flag to King of the Hill. The mode will join the preexisting Point Capture and Payload modes.
The update will also include the first iteration of the progression system.
