Pokemon’s Kanto Region Recreated in Unreal Engine 4

January 15, 2016 by Stephen Daly

It’s a process that’s taken seven months.

Preston Dunagan has spent the last seven months recreating Pokémon’s Kanto Region in Epic's Unreal Engine 4.

The map includes all of the game's outdoor areas, with the exception of Viridian Forest and the Safari Zone, which are technically in-door areas in the game. Dunagan created all of the assets and models himself.

The Kanto Region is inspired by the Japanese area of the same name, which is home to the capital Tokyo.

You'll be able to revisit the original Pokémon games' depiction of Kanto when they're re-released on Vitural Console for 2DS and 3DS on February 27th. Yellow, Blue, and Red will cost $12.49 each and a New 3DS bundle is being launched in the US on the same day featuring Blue and Red. Three themed 2DS bundles will also be released on Europe on that date featuring one of the three games.
