Frontier Developments announced today announced that Elite Dangerous has sold 1.4 million units across PC, Mac, and Xbox One. The title originally launched for the PC in December of 2014, followed by an October 2015 release on Xbox One.
The massive space sim is considered a flagship title for virtual reality, and its developer has been at the forefront of VR development since 2013. Last month, Frontier announced that the game will become the first AAA title to offer native SteamVR support.
In a statement, the company’s CEO praised the remarkably dedicated player base.
“The average play time among our 1.4 million players is 60 hours – that’s a massive 84 million player hours and counting. With the community’s feedback, we’re constantly making Elite Dangerous better than ever. We have incredible long-term ambition and we will continue to deliver on those ambitions. We will detail more exciting developments for Horizons very soon.”
Horizons, the new expansion season for the game, is available now. We recently learned that the latest update will add minor factions, smaller political entities within star systems that compete to take control of that system's assets.
