Microtransactions Coming To Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3

December 15, 2015 by Carlos Chism

Call of Duty now joins a growing number of games offering microtransactions.

Activision and Treyarch have announced that Call of Duty Points are coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. The points are a new optional in-game currency that can be purchased with real money. They will allow players to retrieve additional supply drops in multiplayer, or extra Vials of Liquid Divinium in Zombies Mode. The currency will not be available on last-gen consoles, as it is limited to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

The Black Ops 3 market has also been updated with three new melee weapons, new taunts, body and head variants for each Specialist, Epic rarity camo, and calling cards. Per IGN, Activision says that "the entire range of new items can be obtained by simply playing the game and trading the Cryptokeys you earn for Supply Drops in the Black Market."

Playing the game on PS4, Xbox One, or PC will grant players a one-time gift of 200 Call of Duty Points, but this is in effect for a limited time, while supplies last.

Here are the tiers for purchasing points costs:

  • 200 – $2

  • 1,000 – $10

  • 2,000 – $20

  • 4,000 – $40

We learned earlier today that Destiny will feature paid character level boosts as well.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
