People are still very much recovering from the news that Game of Thrones is getting a sequel series focusing on Jon Snow. The “man who knows nothing” had a quite definitive ending in the series finale, and yet somehow he’s coming back–not that anyone currently knows how, why, or when.
News of the upcoming series comes not from HBO or Warner Bros Discovery, but rather from Daenerys Targaryen. Emilia Clark herself was asked about this in an interview, and she responded affirmatively.
“He has told me about it. And I know it exists. It’s happening.”
Given that she’s likely not going to be in the show, you’d be fair for thinking that this isn’t an “official confirmation.” However, she did have one more thing to say that could change things.
“It’s been created by Kit as far as I can understand, so he’s in it from the ground up. So what you will be watching, hopefully, if it happens, is certified by Kit Harington.”
That might be the game-changer. When Game of Thrones ended, critics and fans alike blasted the final season and its series finale for how it handled characters like Jon Snow, Daenerys, Arya Stark, and others. At the time, Kit Harrington openly defended them, but now one has to wonder if he’s involved in this project “from the ground up” to make sure that it stays true to the character of Jon and doesn’t come off as a hollow attempt at redemption.
All in all, there’s a lot still up in the air. Hopefully, we see an official confirmation soon.
