Ubisoft gave us the first look at Far Cry Primal’s gameplay when a new trailer, dubbed the Beast Master trailer, was unveiled at The Game Awards. Some of the aspects shown included hunting animals and combat against both human and animal enemies. The player used bows and arrows and spears as weapons. In the game, players inhabit Takkar, the last member of a tribe of seasonsed hunters. Survival involves mastering both tools and beasts. The trailer can be viewed below.
According to Ubisoft, players will be able to grow their tribes and hone skills in order to lead their people. There will be enemy tribes that try to eradicate Takkar's group. The player will also meet a cast of "memorable characters." Players will be able to tame any of the wild beasts they encounter, and call upon them when necessary. Each predator has unique abilities, like wolves warning of danger, or sabretooth tigers gathering resources. Excitingly, it is also possible to ride mammoths.
The game's first owl is dubbed the player's "eyes in the sky." The game takes place in the land of Oros, which Ubisoft describes as "a breathtaking valley of redwood forests, harsh taiga, and humid swamps where you can see Earth as it was before man laid claim to it."
Ubisoft have also released a nine-minute gameplay walkthrough with developer commentary. You can watch it here.
Other big announcements from The Game Awards include a new Uncharted 4 character reveal and the unveiling of Telltale Games' new Batman series.
