Dark RPG ‘Project Vitriol’ Launching This Summer

June 17, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

This looks like one to watch.

Announced today from the team behind This War of Mine and Frostpunk is a project codenamed Project Vitriol. 11 Bit Studios has been working in a publishing capacity with Polish game development studio Fool’s Theory, which teased the reveal of the new gritty-looking RPG title with a short reveal trailer earlier today.

There’s not too much given away about the game in the teaser trailer itself aside from some dark and fantastical church-like medieval imagery in the trailer’s main closeup. You can check it out for yourself below.

While not that forthcoming on the visuals, the trailer is accompanied by a description from Fool’s Theory CEO and Project Vitriol Project Lead, Jakub Rokosz, which gives us a little more insight into the upcoming game’s premise and potential gameplay style.

Our game is a deep, morally ambiguous narrative-driven RPG. But let me unveil a bit of the real essence: the game is about the esoteric side of reality, that dark part of the world that most of us don’t see and are not aware of. But the darkness—it is there, lurking behind every corner. It watches us closely from the shadows, and whether we know it or not, takes its toll, making sure we’re going to have a debt to pay. [Vitriol’s] story begins in a place and time where reality, folklore, energy and mysticism met together in a melting pot: early XX century Warsaw, under imperial Russian tsardom.

Rokosz also explains that the global reveal of Global Project Vitriol will be happening this summer, so it looks like we won’t have too much longer to wait to find out more. The game is reportedly the largest in scale and scope that 11 Bit Studios has undertaken in a publishing capacity, with its budget allowing for full voice-acting and motion capture sessions for characters. Looks like this could be one to watch, for sure.

We’ll be keeping an ear to the ground for further news on the mysterious Project Vitriol in the coming weeks.
